Sep 29, 2018 Toastmasters Meeting

A new venue for our club meetings! We had the Open House Meeting last Sep.22 and held it at the Cassalu Coffee & Kitchen main restaurant. Today, we held the meeting at the Cassalu function area.

Shown below are (L-R): Guests Glenn, Joe and Sherine; Members Alvin, Dolly, Renzo, me, Leah, Duchess, Loise and Ed.

Joe and Sherine were club-hopping members/ observers from the Alabang Community Toastmasters (ACT) Club. I met Sherine there at the club during my 1st Visit to the Alabang Community Toastmasters Club.

A Better Venue

In my previous description of the first venue, I mentioned how the layout of the main restaurant was unusual for a function meeting. This was because of the odd seats and tables.

In this function area, it was well-lit by natural lighting as it had glass walls all around as seen from the photo above. It was also quieter than the main resto because the resto had its cashier, chatter of waiters and a blender/shake maker that was so loud.

There was little disruption in this function area other than the usual coming in of waiters to either get orders or serve food.

Mentoring Activity Before the Meeting

I had a mentoring activity with Renzo before the meeting. It was a working lunch for us. The first part of the activity was a discussion of the Pathways Mentoring Program (pwmentorpgm) where we both discussed further his short, medium and long-term goals.

The second part of the mentoring activity focused on his speech that may be used for an upcoming rookie contest called, "Headliners Of Tomorrow" or H.O.T. Contest.

Surprise Toastmaster of the Day Role

It's never pleasant whenever a meeting program is late. By this I mean if the meeting roles are known just before the meeting.

On the day of a meeting, my disadvantage is that I need to leave the house early. If the program is sent thereafter, it would be too late for me and I won't get it.

So for me, there was little time to prepare when I learned I would be the Toastmaster of the Day, just a few minutes before the meeting started.

Shown in the photo below-left is me at the lectern as the Toastmasters of the Day. Leah was the General Evaluator of the meeting (below-right)

Birthday Girl Ching

Today is our Club President Ching's birthday and so she had excused herself to skip the meeting beforehand. But it was so nice of her to give the group a treat of Carbonara as shown in the photo above-right. The birthday treat was served just in time during the break between the Educational Portion and the Evaluation Portion.

Thank you, Club President Ching!

Here's a scanned copy of today's meeting program.

And that's... a wrap!
