Guest Evaluator at Philips, Calamba

Today, Dr. Noy and I motored all the way to Calamba to attend the Philips Calamba Toastmasters Club Meeting with AreaGov. Khris. Welcoming the guests at the lobby was Rowell Macarrubo. Rowell was formerly from Motorola. He is the club's contestant under Area 77 in the upcoming Area 77-78 Joint Quartethlon on Sept. 9.

For tonight's meeting, I evaluated TM Lingua for his speech "The Missing Day in the Earth". The speech is about an attempt to explain a claimed missing day through some bible verses. Dr. Noy was the General Evaluator. VP for Education Viselle handled some business matters. Viselle is the wife of Vic delos Reyes, one of our employees at On Semiconductor.

Onsemi Toastmasters Meetings

These are the only photos I have of regular TM meetings with my first club, the Onsemi Toastmasters Club. And I'm not even in the photos. That's what happens when you're the only one bringing a camera. These meetings were usually held at the Rizal Conference room.

Club-Hopping at ACT Club - Speaking to Entertain

Area Governor Lolet Gabay invited me to guest evaluate today at the Alabang Community Toastmasters (ACT) Club at the 2nd floor of the Gloria Maris Restaurant in Alabang Town Center. Division Governor Rema Manzano was also there to guest evaluate. Club President Dr. Neil Carranto and VP Peter Almonte were there to welcome the guests.

The theme of the meeting was "Taking the Club Seriously". I took on the Table Topics evaluation for 4 speakers: Neil, Viviene, Peter and Anne. I also evaluated 2 Prepared Speech speakers Viviene Vargas and Dr. Neil Caranto. A speaker very fluent in English, Viviene delivered a remarkable Icebreaker Speech entitled "The Swan". Dr. Neil's speech was entitled "The Ant" and talked about his keen observations on the characteristics of the ant.

INTRODUCTION

Good Evening!

Is there anybody here who has worked abroad even for a brief period of time? (brief interview with respondent) Is there anybody here who works or has worked in a field that is Customer Service-related? (brief interview with respondent)

Well I’d say that all of our jobs have a component called “customer service” Would you agree? Is there anybody here who has an idea what the phrase “Extra Mile” stands for?

Alright, well I’d like to illustrate that phrase with a story.

Club-Hopping at KCPI - The Entertaining Speech

I was invited today by Area Governor Lolet Gabay as Guest Evaluator to the KCPI Toastmasters Club (Kimberly-Clark Phils. Inc.) in San Pedro, Laguna. At the same time, I delivered my Advanced Speech #1 from The Entertaining Speaker Manual, The Entertaining Speech.

The title of my speech is "That Extra Mile". The speech is a story about my unforgettable experience upon arriving in the United States for the first time.

I also evaluated Jon De Padua, a prepared speaker for his Speech Project #2 Organize Your Speech. His speech was entitled "Sari-Sari Store" and it was a call for entrepreneurship among Filipinos. It was an interesting speech that was virtually a subject on Business 101.

INTRODUCTION

Way back when I was 24 years old, I had a wonderful opportunity – and that was to go work in the United States for 3 months. The US office for the company I worked for needed temporary help to finish a critical system in the US.

Being one of the more experienced programmers in the Philippines office back then, I was selected to help them.
