Meeting at the New Rel Lab Office

Attending today's meeting were: Gerry Ong, Mic Tuason and me. Discussed briefly was a meeting to be scheduled in mid-December which will be the venue for an initial convention of those interested in joining Toastmasters. The media campaign was also briefly discussed. In addition, officers will also be talking personally with engineers as prospective members for the club.

Here's a sample of the flyers and will be the first to be posted on the bulletin board:

Meeting at Onsemi ER Room

At the Onsemi ER room, a meeting was held to discuss possible action items regarding the problems plaguing the Toastmasters club. This was brought about by the issue of still un-renewed club dues for October, 2006.

An email was sent by Area Governor Carina "Bobbie" Galang on this. Attending the meeting were Officers Gerry Ong, Mic Tuason, Dan Benig and myself. Also in the meeting was HR Mgr Alfie Suarez. Some of the items discussed was whether and how better can the club serve the needs of employees.

Onsemi Toastmasters Meetings

These are the only photos I have of regular TM meetings with my first club, the Onsemi Toastmasters Club. And I'm not even in the photos. That's what happens when you're the only one bringing a camera. These meetings were usually held at the Rizal Conference room.

Engineers' Workshop - Inspire Your Audience

Finally, I delivered my CTM "graduation speech" as Competent Toastmaster to cap the meeting in the Engineers Presentation Skills Workshop. The Engineers' Workshop was envisioned to help ON Semiconductor engineers improve in English proficiency as well as develop general presentation skills. Club Toastmasters Dr. Noy, Dan Benig, Gerry Ong, Mic Tuason and Roxy Borromeo as well as the engineers' supervisors helped in the coaching and mentoring of this group.

In attendance in today's meeting were Gerry Ong, Mic Tuason, Dr. Noy Josef, Doris Asis, Leo Lim, Elvis Abellera, Ana Dichoso, Dino Pasturan and other engineers. My speech, entitled "In the Eyes of a Child, A Vision of Hope" was evaluated by Dr. Noy. The speech is #10 in the basic manual - "Inspire Your Audience".

Jun 27, 2006 Presentation Skills Training - Persuade with Power

My prepared speech today is entitled, "Jewels at the Podium" for the Persuade with Power speech project. The title is a play on words on a currently rating Korea-novela with the title "Jewels in the Palace". This speech is about tips in public speaking, hence it was quite relevant to the audience.

The audience was composed of engineers and management employees who were attending a presentation skills workshop. Many in the audience related well with the topic as shown by the visible interest on their faces.

The evaluator, Doc Noy, found the speech very appropriate to the audience. The outline is very clear. He also noted a beautiful quotation: "Relaxation in speech delivery happens during the actual presentation." It is a manifestation of a series of practice beforehand. Previously learned skills were incorporated in this project.

A praiseworthy comment I received for this speech was "You're a STAR of ON Semiconductor TMC!". It is rather ironic that this month, June, may be the last month that the club would remain "active" in TI's records. Regular meetings have stopped and it's unlikely the club will renew.

So sad and so anticlimactic.

May 17, 2006 Toastmasters Meeting - Your Body Speaks

As it was on a Wednesday, this speech was delivered in a "bare-bones" meeting at the Clinic. Attending was a nurse and Doc Noy. There was no meeting program prepared for this meeting. For this Your Body Speaks speech project, I used a swimming topic and this speech would be the first having the swimming theme. The speech is entitled "Let's Go Swimming".

Doc Noy the Evaluator liked the easy-to-follow speech. The speech had an attention-getting opening and the body was well-outlined. To satisfy the objectives, I had plenty of gestures. The skills learned previously in past speech projects were incorporated here. As the speech had a pleasant and positive message, my smile helped express it.

Mar 15, 2006 Toastmasters Meeting - How to Say It

My recent speech topic has become a bit old and tired and so I came up with a new one for the How to Say It speech project. For this speech, I spoke about the Superkalan, a cooking device that my wife and I recently purchased. I felt excited about this device and wanted to discuss its merits in this speech entitled, "Fueling the Cooking".

Jan 25, 2006 Toastmasters Meeting - Organize Your Speech

After a delightfully satisfying assessment of my Ice Breaker, I decided to follow-up on my first speech with a second one, the Organize Your Speech project. This second speech project in entitled "The Devil's Gardens". The topic came from an article in the National Geographic.

Unfortunately, the assigned evaluator for me, Roxy Borromeo, was unable to attend. Nonetheless, General Evaluator Elaine Aviola, gave a comprehensive evaluation.

Oct 26, 2005 Toastmasters Meeting - Ice Breaker

Today, I delivered my Ice Breaker speech for Toastmasters. Entitled "Fast Forward", this is my first speech in the Toastmasters club. The meeting was held in the Integrity Room of the Analog Design Center or ADC. This is not the usual venue for the club meetings. It was obvious that the room wasn't set up for function meetings yet because some of the tables were stacked close together.
