Alabang Community Toastmasters Club Visit - Sep 21, 2019

It's my first time to visit the Alabang Community Toastmasters Club in their new venue at Unit 716 of the Civic Prime Bldg. The last time I visited the club was at the Cafe 8 in Crimson Hotel when I was Area Director.

Attending in today's meeting were (L-R): Nelson Salazar, guests Ian, Steve and Mitch, Pim de Bruijn, me, Carlo Hernandez, Van Callanta, Neetu Chadha, Aldrick Timbol, Joy Timbol, Amina Timbol, Ella Coors and Kristine Petalcurin.

We started off a bit late because, for some reason, the door to the unit in the building was still locked. It was only opened when the caretaker came around.

Taking on the role of Toastmaster of the Day was Ella Coors. The theme for today's meeting was, "What Goes Around Comes Around."

It was refreshing to see an "Anything Goes" portion in the meeting, something I've not seen in other clubs - not even ours. It was Amina Timbol who presided this part.

She's still too young to be a regular Toastmaster but I'm glad she's able to take part in meetings. For today, she asked the group, "What are the differences between this age and the '90s?" and was received with rather interesting responses.

Table Topics

The Table Topics portion was handled by Joy Timbol, Amina's mom. The topics were quotes uttered by actors in popular movies.

Below, Carlo takes on the first topic which was a quote from the movie, "Forrest Gump".

Second to be asked to respond was guest Ian for the movie quote, "Failure is not an option." from the film, Apollo 13.

It was guest Mitch's turn when she responded to a quote from the movie, "Schindler's List."

Everyone were listening intently to Mitch's mini-speech, except Steve, who's becoming suspicious that he'll be called next.

And he was right. Just to round up the guests, Steve was volunteered to give his thoughts on a quote from the movie, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

Prepared Speeches

The club meeting had 4 prepared speakers today. First off was an Icebreaker by Kristine Petalcurin (below-left). The second was a PM level 2 project Understanding Your Communication Style by Van Callanta (below-middle).

The speech was for the MS level 3 Elective, Inspire Your Audience, delivered by Neetu Chadha (below-right). The fourth speaker was Nelson Salazar.

I thought Nelson wouldn't make it with his speech as he had a District Council meeting to attend. But, fortunately, he was able to deliver his speech, a DL level 4, Manage Change.

Evaluation

The evaluation portion came up after a 15-minute break over coffee and light snacks. As the invited General Evaluator for today, I gave my opening remarks to the group.

First to be called to evaluate Table Topics was Neetu (below-left). Carlo (below-middle) then evaluated Kristine for her Icebreaker speech. Then it was Aldrick Timbol's (below-right) turn to evaluate Val's prepared speech.

In addition to being General Evaluator, I also evaluated the prepared speeches of Neetu and Nelson.

Shown below are the three guests with Joy at the end of the table.

Awarding of Token

At the end of the meeting, Pres. Nelson gave me a token. This is a book from Bo Sanchez entitled, "How to Do the Impossible." He even had the rest of the members write a dedication on the first page. What a kind gesture! Thank you so much, Alabang Community TMC.

Shown below are some of the officers (L-R): VP-Membership Ella Coors, Pres. Nelson Salazar and Immediate Past President Neetu Singh Chadha.

Here's a scanned copy of today's meeting program.

And that's... a wrap!
