Test Speaker at Joint Speech Evaluation Contest - Get to the Point

This will be my first time to witness a speech contest. I'm not only observing, I'm also participating - not as a contestant though, but as a Test Speaker. Sometimes called a Model Speaker, the Test Speaker is someone who speaks at the Evaluation Contest so the Evaluation contestants could evaluate him.

Since I just delivered my second speech last month, my mentor Doc Noy gave a go-signal to repeat the same speech and get it credited for my third speech project, Get to the Point.

INTRODUCTION

The Devil’s Gardens. What thoughts does the phrase evoke for you? Could it be a novel about the occult? How about a movie about a religious ritual? No… no… It’s none of those. (long pause).

What I’m about to tell you is a strange phenomenon that takes place deep in the heart of the jungles of the Amazon Rainforest in Western Peru.

Jan 25, 2006 Toastmasters Meeting - Organize Your Speech

After a delightfully satisfying assessment of my Ice Breaker, I decided to follow-up on my first speech with a second one, the Organize Your Speech project. This second speech project in entitled "The Devil's Gardens". The topic came from an article in the National Geographic.

Unfortunately, the assigned evaluator for me, Roxy Borromeo, was unable to attend. Nonetheless, General Evaluator Elaine Aviola, gave a comprehensive evaluation.

Oct 26, 2005 Toastmasters Meeting - Ice Breaker

Today, I delivered my Ice Breaker speech for Toastmasters. Entitled "Fast Forward", this is my first speech in the Toastmasters club. The meeting was held in the Integrity Room of the Analog Design Center or ADC. This is not the usual venue for the club meetings. It was obvious that the room wasn't set up for function meetings yet because some of the tables were stacked close together.

INTRO

You know, several weeks ago, I called up Dan over the phone and I said “Dan, I used to be with the toastmasters club and I’d like to rejoin. How do I do that?”

At the other end, Dan said “Oh really? That’s no problem. Just go on attend the next session. Ask Mic when the next session will be. And by the way, be ready with your Ice Breaker speech.” And that’s why I’m here today.

But two years ago, I was already a de facto member of this club and after only 3 or 4 sessions, I left. So today, I’ll talk about why I left and why I’m coming back.
