Jul 6, 2019 Toastmasters Meeting

It was a fun meeting today at the BF Community TMC, the first meeting for the new Toastmasters year 2019-2020. It was also my first time to wear my new DTM badge.

Attending in today's meeting were (L-R): Seated: Ed Ramirez, me, Pres. Cristina Yung and Jude Ola. Standing: Marlon Sanchez, Margaret Yung, Glendy Artes and son, Venneth Santos, Leonzo Escolar, Tanya Chloe de Guzman, Alvin Panghulan, Renzo Vergel de Dios and Russell Santos. The last 3 standing ladies were just in for the photo-op: Anne Macalintal, Dolly delos Reyes and Tess Siapno.

The reason the three ladies were there was because of the Division H Council meeting which I also attended. The Division H Council started in the morning and separate discussions stretched into the afternoon.

Prepared Speeches for the Day

There were some mishaps in the program. One prepared speaker, Dolly delos Reyes, backed out while another, Russell Santos (below-left), gave an extemporaneous delivery of his Ice Breaker in Pathways.

The second prepared speaker Leonzo Escolar (below-middle) shared his take on the "Chinese Invasion" but started off with some interesting Chinese phrases and words.

The third prepared speaker was Jude Ola and I evaluated him.

Evaluation Portion

New Club President Cristina Yung (above-right) was today's General Evaluator. I believe it was her first time to take on the role.

For Table Topics, Alvin Panghulan (below-left) became the Evaluator, also his first time, I believe. Glendy Artes (below-middle) evaluated Russell Santos' speech and Loise Banez (below-right) evaluated Leonzo's speech.

Break Time and Fellowship

Just before the Evaluation, we had the usual break where fellowship also takes place. That's the lectern at the foreground.

What's under the lectern, you may ask?

Below-left, you'll see a couple of wireless microphones which we didn't use. We also have the old and new gavel sets. The new gavel and block set was awarded to the club, for being an early achiever, during the Division H Turnover.

Below-right, Chloe de Guzman, as one of the functionaries, gives the Time Management report while General Evaluator Cristina Yung looks on from the side.

Getting Used to DTM

It was my first time to evaluate as a DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster). Having been ACG ALB (Advanced Communicator Gold, Advanced Leader Bronze) for the longest time, it was already automatic on my part to put those two norms after my name.

Well, today I almost did just that until I realized I had a new norm. Hence I quickly corrected it in my evaluation of Jude Ola's speech as shown below.

Business Matters

One of the announcements in the business portion was the upcoming 12th Year Anniversary Celebration of the club. Shown below is the flyer I made as VP-Public Relations.

One final photo-op with the group giving the "One for the District" sign.

Shown below is the scanned program for today's meeting.

And that's... a wrap!
