I also had the chance to evaluate two contestants for the upcoming Area level Contest on March 3: Cristina Yung and Duchess Munsayac. They wanted me to specifically evaluate their speeches as contest pieces.
Shown below is the break during the meeting.
The break usually occurs after the last Prepared Speaker speaks and before the Evaluation portion. I always ask for a break from the Toastmaster of the Day when I'm evaluating.
The above shows a typical scenario during the break. I busily write my evaluations, the Guest Attendant orients guests and everybody else does their own thing.
The photo below shows my evaluation of the two speakers, Cristina and Duchess. You'd know I'm evaluating, and not delivering a speech, because of the notes I have on the portable lectern. Nowadays, when I deliver a prepared speech, I no longer have notes in front of me.
My evaluation of them emphasized the need for big gestures, body movement and maximal use of the stage in a contest setting where the venue is much bigger than the meeting room we're accustomed to.
Overall, it was a tiring, yet extremely fulfilling day for me!
